Heritage United Methodist Church was founded on April 28, 1985 from the merger of Memorial United Methodist Church (Ninth and Floyd Streets) and Brookville United Methodist Church (7619 Timberlake Road), here in Lynchburg. The name Heritage was chosen to represent each congregation's history which encompassed approximately 125 years.
By the end of July, 1985, the property on Leesville Road and a new parsonage had been purchased. The ground breaking service was held on November 16, 1986 and construction began a short time afterward. With great joy and thanksgiving the first worship service was held at Heritage on June 5, 1988.
Service Is Important To Us
Both Memorial and Brookville churches were founded as neighborhood churches. As these two congregations united to form the new Heritage Church, they did so with the same deep commitment to ministry in the community. Mission programs of both churches were continued and expanded. Strong programs in evangelism, education, and music were put in place. With God's continued guidance and blessing, the Heritage United Methodist congregation is ever committed to serving our Lord in caring outreach ministry to our community, our nation, and our world!
